Would you do anything (within reason) to become a better hockey player?
I know I would, and if you are reading this page I can bet that you want to be one of the best players every time you step out on the ice too, right?
If you haven't noticed yet, more and more NHL players are incorporating Yoga into their off-season (and in-season) routines.
When you think of yoga you may not think of strong, powerful hockey players, but there are many reasons why pro hockey players all around the world are practicing yoga to improve their on-ice performance...
Here are a few of the hockey specific benefits that yoga has for hockey players:
- Improvement in Balance (great for skating)
- Improvement in Mobility and Flexibility (also great for long, fluid skating strides)
- A Reduction in Mental and Physical Stress + Anxiety
- A Reduction in Total Body Inflammation (important for hockey performance)
- Improvement in Breathing Capacity (more oxygen means less time to catch your breath between shifts)
- Improvement in Sleep Quality (better recovery, more testosterone production)
- Improvement in Pain Symptoms (less pain = more/better hockey training, less missed games)
The best hockey players in the world are doing Yoga, and the scientific literature shows why it is beneficial for hockey players, so I think we can agree that Yoga is something that hockey players should be doing...
"But I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to Yoga!"
Don't worry, you aren't alone...
Most hockey players, when starting Yoga, have no idea how to do yoga, what to expect, or which classes to choose that will help them with their hockey performance...
Not to mention it can be intimidating going to a Yoga class with a bunch of experienced "Yogis"!
This is why we've teamed up with a great Yoga instructor and put together a full, follow along Hockey Yoga Program that you can do from the comfort of your own home, with no equipment needed!
